I have always felt very strongly about helping out the marginalized and the poor. I think that this was handed down from my Dad, who was a pastor, and felt very strongly about living out his faith in a practical way. There are so many verses in the Bible that talk about Christians showing love and compassion to their fellow man. James 2:14, says "Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed, but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action is dead." Those are powerful words, and the scriptures have so many other places where it talks about our love being practical. It is not easy, but we are commanded to do it. We have to show the love of God, and a lot of times we need to be compassionate and caring, rather than being judgemental and condemning. As the song goes, "They will  know that we are Christian by our Love". Love has to be demonstrated in practical deeds. I also do not think that this is a gift that is given to only a few of us, if we are followers of Christ, we should all be demonstrating our love in practical ways.  ~ Sheldon

God has called me to shower love and compassion on people!  I have spent many years journeying with someone who I would now consider my friend.  This last year she went through a very hard time and needed me.  I visited her in the hospital, helped set up bank accounts, liaisoned with her children, found furniture, and texted and phoned. It blesses me so much to love on her this way! ~ Marlene
