We can go through a lot of tasks and checklists as we walk through the motions of what it means to be people of faith. At the end of the day, what is most required of us is a renewal of the heart. Nehemiah 8 gives us hints of what a renewal of God's people can look like, whether we lived back in Nehemiah's time, or live now in our present age.
